The Orkney Islands, a fantastic part of Scotland surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.
Consisting of 70 islands, 16 of which are inhabited, with an abundance of wildlife, welcoming communities and stunning scenery, Orkney represents a wonderful location for a holiday.
Orkney is divided into 3 regions, The Mainland, the North Isles and the South Isles, the coastline covers approximately 570 miles, over half of which is taken up by the mainland.
Less than one third of the islands are inhabited, with the main populous being concentrated around the towns of Kirkwall and Stromness.
For thousands of years, from the stone age to present day, people have lived and worked on the islands, the legacies of thousands of years of history are everywhere, ancient monuments and archeological artefacts stand now as they did many centuries ago, preserving the history and heritage of this truly wonderful place.
